Sander’s chocolate. It’s iconic in this area. The Detroit Brewing Company has incorporated Sander’s hot fudge into a beer. How bad could it be?
It pours a beautiful deep, rich, chocolate brown. The chocolate is prominent on the nose but subtle in taste. There is a strong, rich, roasted malt flavor but there is no hint of anything burned. It’s a simple beer yet has a complex taste. Unusual for a chocolate stout, there is absolutely no hint of bitterness. I wouldn’t call it sweet just evenly balanced.
As far as stouts go, especially the chocolate stouts, it’s one of the better ones I’ve had. I can see me drinking more of this.
